Tentative dates for Community Events
Sima Soharbi, Sonya Fraser and Rita Snodell are community committee co-chairs of the Austin District Dental Hygienists’ Society and would like to have your help with our planned projects listed below.
Our goal is to get all registered dental hygienists involved in providing dental hygiene services to the underserved communities in Austin and surrounding areas.
Please reply with the name of the project that you are interested in participating.

October- Dental Health Month:
1. Hope Fest, Saturday, Octobers 22nd, 2011
Location: Reagan High School
Available shifts: 8:30 am -12:00pm or 12:00pm- 3:30 pm – Please list the time slot you would like to volunteer
October-December
2. Head Start Fluoride Varnish Program: October-December
Friday mornings: 8:30am-11:30am.
Rita Snodell will send Evites on dates and locations of the Head Start centers
Please make an effort to participate and take ownership for one Fluoride Varnish Program at one Head Start center.
October- Dental Health Month
3. Not your ordinary Halloween treat!! Oral health presentations and goody bags for the:
2nd graders at Palm Elementary school: Friday, October 28th 2011(sima Sohrabi)
3rd graders at Sanchez Elementary School and also a parent oral health presentation: October, 2011.(need two volunteers).
You may plan on doing an oral health presentation at your child’s or neighboring school this month! Please contact us for materials.

4. Sealants Across Texas, Austin, Saturday November 5th, 2011
Location: ACC East View Campus- Health Science Center Building, Dental Hygiene Clinic
Time: 8:30 am-12:30 pm– Please list two hour time slot you want to volunteer.

5. Participating in Susan Komen Breast Walk, Sunday, November 13th, 2011
December
6. Donation drive for Safe Place at our December meeting:
Sonya Fraser will send an Evite listing items that Safe Place needs/requests and members can bring the items to the December meeting.
Sonya will make arrangements to deliver the items to Safe Place.
Requested items for Safe Place:
- Diapers sizes 2-6
- Pull-Ups sizes 2T-5T
- Baby Wipes
- Baby Shampoo
- Baby Lotion
- Baby Powder
- Brushes or Combs
- Mouth Wash
- Deodorant
- Full size bottles of unopened adult shampoo and conditioner
- Toothpaste/Toothbrushes
- Unopened body wash/soap
- Razors and Shaving Cream
- Shower Sponges
- Body Lotion
- Paper Towels
