President's Message Fall 2007
I am honored to serve as the President of The Austin District Dental Hygienists’ Society (ADDHS) for 2007-2008. I look forward to the upcoming year and hope it’s filled with many awarding opportunities for each of you. Our board of directors has been busy planning our meetings and events for the year. Please see our calendar of events for dates and locations. There will be lots of opportunities for continuing education, with at least five of our regular monthly meetings including CE credits, as well as, our two full day continuing education courses available in October 2007 and April 2008. ADDHS Community Events Committee is busy organizing volunteer efforts for a few major projects, please visit “Community Events” on our website to find out how you can serve the Austin area with your gifts during TDHA’s Annual “Sealants Across Texas”, the “Sealant Day at Manos De Cristo”, and/or “HopeFest”. ADDHS is also active in mentoring the dental hygiene students at the Austin Community College. If you would like to become a mentor to a student, please contact one of our SADHA liaisons, Sima Sohrabi, RDH, BS or Debi Segan, RDH (see “Officers” for their information). This is an awarding experience and opportunity, and when it’s all said and done, you have one more colleague you can call your friend. And of course, we want to make room for some lighthearted fun and networking, so we are planning a Hygienist Holiday Party in December (stay tuned for the location) and a visit from the TDHA President, Beth Stewart, RDH in January.
I am looking forward to this year as your President, and I welcome any suggestions on how ADDHS can better serve Austin, our colleagues, the students, and YOU. Also, if you are interested in serving on one of our committees, please contact the committee chair. I speak on behalf of all of the officers and committee chairs in saying, we welcome new voices and new ideas.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Rebecca O. Fontenot, RDH
